Teatro Massimo of Palermo

The Teatro Massimo of Palermo is the largest opera theater building in Italy, and one of the largest in Europe (third-largest architectural after Opéra National de Paris and the Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna). Reception rooms, halls, galleries and monumental staircases surrounding the theater itself, forming an architectural complex of great proportions.

The theater was built between the bastion of San Vito and La Porta Maqueda, tearing down the Church of the Stigmata and the adjoining convent and the Church of San Giuliano, and tradition has it that a nun known as the "nun" (the first Mother Superior of the convent ) still roams the halls of the theater. It is also said that those who do not believe in the legend stumble into a particular step, entering the theater, said step just "rung of the nun."
